As I write the weather has turned to hot and humid.
At the moment life if getting in the way of blogging (and its the dull parts of life) so rather than let a full week go by without a post.. enjoy this melting courtesy of LookAndTaste.com
Of course, the other way to melt chocolate is to leave it in a car on a hot day… but it wrecks the taste.
On Thursday February 12, there is going to be a party, a tweet-up, a Twestival.
The difference between a normal tweet-up and a twestival is that the date is global (there are currently over 100 happening in cites worldwide). And its going to cost you money. All the “entry fees” collected are going to go towards a charity, charity:water.
The Belfast Twestival is in Laverys Bunker from 8pm – 10.30pm (currently before Radiation / Laverys DJs, changed from the earler venue) and is organised by Andy (Good On Paper) McMillan and Phil (Iced Coffee) O’Kane.
There are a lot more. If you’d like to help in a volunteerism role with any kind of Twestival organization, wherever you are, get in touch with Amanda Rose or Jaz Cummins. For updates, follow @twestival on Twitter.
I might stick out like a tomato here, but I’d like a food camp.
And I do mean a FoodCamp, not a big food based party, but hands on classes followed by a bloggers dinner, cooked by bloggers. The germ of this idea seems to be Laurent Haug. He proposed the idea of getting Grandmas to cook a dinner for bloggers. The Grandma who loves to cook gets to take over a restaurant, kitchens and all, and cook up dinner for a hoard of hunger bloggers. I found out about this due to CBC’s Spark podcast, who are trying out the first Canadian Grandma Dinner on June 9 in Toronto.
So I asked certain food blogger, Ms. Grannymar who pointed out the obvious; she didn’t think she would be able to cook for a clutch of toyboys let alone a hoard of bloggers.
So I have a slightly different position… a FoodCamp (I’m sure that a CampBar for wine, and cocktails is possible). This is there food bloggers get together, and offer to teach the making of a single dish to a group within an hour plus clean-up (baking and roasting which take longer could be timed so that another session could take over the kitchen in the meantime). So a lot of people who love food, get to learn how to make their own good food.
So at the end of the day, there is a lot of food. So let’s have a bloggers dinner to get everyone around, alternatively arrange the food to be delivered to a charity (or invite a few reps from the charity in question to present and pick what they want).
The first solution to be found, is to get an idea if there is any interest?
Is it a wining idea?
And the next thing is, should this take place in a restaurant kitchen (which tend to be small) or a school or college with better catering facilities? And would or could you suggest a location?
Scientific America has a wonderful little podcast, little being the operative word. Their “60 Second Science” series brings interesting things to my ears. And how odd is this one; yaks produce cheese that is high in polyunsaturated fat. It also has four times more conjugated linoleic acid than dairy cattle cheese and linoleic acid may help ward off heart disease.
The secret seems to be that the yaks graze on grass.
Hang on, isn’t grass what Irish cows eat? Which implies that grass reared dairy cattle cheese could be healthier than grain reared cow cheese.
Did anyone check (I don’t understand the chemistry to be honest)?
Well I’m feeling peckish,
I hate the idea of a “shout out to all the lads”. It sort of smells like a bad Oscar speech (who should I link to?). But after a lunch with the former workmates I sort of got talked in to it.
I also met up with the lads (sexist I know but none of my former co-workers that blog and tell me about it are female) at the sort of jobs fair in the offices. And a few of the girls and guys who left the company over the years were (wo)manning the stands (Hello again Fiona, I’ll probably meet you at the Fas thing in Dublin) and catching up with what they have been doing, who did what and if there are any jobs going.
So Hello to “the Bell ringer” a.k.a “the chemist”, “The Hillwalker”, “The Librarian”, “abullybeef“, Siasy (remember to tag!), “No Wuccas Man” and “tuff gnarl“. I said I’d shout if you blogged!
And since I’m going to be hitting the Croke Park fair, I’ll call in to the Irish Blog Awards 2007. I said I’d be helping. For the record, I’ve not given up chocolate for lent… so please look for me when you find it there…
